Australian Female Punter has arrived!

Posted by Female Punter

The spring carnival of 2008 really captured my attention and I found myself having quite a few flutters on favourite names and anything that caught my eye and didn't really care if I won or lost because it was the thrill of it all that had my attention. So 2009 is the year of the female punter where I am going to start this Blog and see what I can learn about horse racing and betting and then hopefully start betting and keeping a record of it in here.

Not knowing too much about how to pick horses to win I will keep track of how I go about it and see where it takes me.

There is a lot I don't know and I will be looking to learn the following things to get me on my way.

How to read a form guide
I tried to read these but it was like walking through a maze and I will definitely need help learning how to read form

How odds work with horses
I have a little understanding of odds. If something is paying $10 and I have $2 on it I think I get back $20 or something like that

When are races on and where
I know the Melbourne Cup is in November and so are some other big races, but when are all the big races on throughout the year and how often.

Should I bet at a TAB or Bookmakers?
I am familiar with how to make a bet at a TAB but I don't know how to do the bets where you have to pick in order to get a big payout . I noticed a lot of online bookmaker adds in papers of late and are they better than the TAB? If bookmakers are online are they safe to bet with? What is the difference between them?

How much should I bet?
During the spring carnival I just bet whatever I felt like and that was generally $5 because it was the lowest denominator I had that wasn't a coin because handing over a $2 gold coin did not seem like a bet, however the note did for some reason. I need to know how to bet properly else I am only going to lose more than I win and that won't be good.

So that's what I need to know for now moving forward.

Punting and horse racing seems like it is a male dominated sport but it's time for a female punter to see what she can do.

Wish me luck!

Interesting concept and look forward to seeing how you go. Go to Google search
and type in - Horse Racing Info - and check out some websites that have racing
information that you are after.

I use a site called funnily enough Horse Racing Info which is located at
www.horseracinginfo.com.au and they have heaps of racing stuff which looks
like it will suit what you need to learn the basics of Australian horse racing.

Good luck!
