Thanks to the guy's suggestions I took a look at Free Bookie Bets website and it is full of useful information on Australian Bookmakers and all the free bets and sign up bonuses they have on offer.
There is a review of each bookmaker's free bets and clicking on any of the links and banners will take you directly to the bookmaker's sites which makes it really easy if you have a particular bookie you want to sign with.
Free Bookie Bets also has exclusive deals with some bookmakers which means if I sign up through their website I will get a special free bet sign up bonus not available anywhere else which makes the offer much more attractive to me.
The better bookmakers for free bets appear to be the following;
Sportsbet - Exclusive $200 free bets at Free Bookie Bets
IASbet - Free bets of $100, $200 and $1000
Sportingbet - Exclusive free bet of $100 at Free Bookie Bets
Centrebet - Exclusive free bet of $150 at Free Bookie Bets
Canbet - Free bet of $100
Betfair - Free bet of $50
Sports Acumen - Free bet of $100
Global Sportsbet - Free bet of $100
I suppose now I have to work out the best bookmaker to sign up with, but I still have to work out how to bet first :)
If anyone has any thoughts on who is the best bookmaker then feel free to share your thoughts.
Bye for now
Well haven't had much time this week to do much but have a look at the Horse Racing Info website and at least now i know when the big races are on.
Big races are called Group 1 races and there is also Group 2 and Group 3 races. If the race is worth a lot of money or has a lot of prestige it is called a Group 1 race.
The spring carnival in Melbourne seems to be the biggest time of the year for racing as thats when the Melbourne Cup and Caulfield Cup are on and the most people seem to go to Flemington in November to see the Derby and Oaks as well.
Another big carnival coming up soon is the Sydney autumn carnival because they look to have a couple of big races if prizemoney is any guide. The Golden Slipper and BMW races at Rosehill and Doncaster Handicap and Sydney Cup at Randwick. These races are on in late April.
Melbourne also looks to have big races in autumn with the Blue Diamond Stakes which is for young horses, and two other big races the Newmarket Handicap and Australian Cup.
Adelaide have a carnival from March to May, Brisbane in the winter months of May and June, and Perth in the summer months of December and January.

Bye for now.
I still need to learn how to find a winner :)
Bye for now.
Too busy on the weekend to check out any websites so will see how I go this week.
My very first poster to my blog Nathan suggested I go to a site called Horse Racing Info so that is my next plan of attack! I had a quick look just then and it seems very detailed so it may take me a few days to soak all the information in.
Firstly I want to find out when all the big horse races are on each year and http://www.horseracinginfo.com.au/ looks like a good place to start. Any websites of interest that I come across I will list them to the right of my Blog so they may be able to assist anyone else who reads this.
Bye for now.

Not knowing too much about how to pick horses to win I will keep track of how I go about it and see where it takes me.
There is a lot I don't know and I will be looking to learn the following things to get me on my way.
How to read a form guide
I tried to read these but it was like walking through a maze and I will definitely need help learning how to read form
How odds work with horses
I have a little understanding of odds. If something is paying $10 and I have $2 on it I think I get back $20 or something like thatWhen are races on and where
I know the Melbourne Cup is in November and so are some other big races, but when are all the big races on throughout the year and how often.Should I bet at a TAB or Bookmakers?
I am familiar with how to make a bet at a TAB but I don't know how to do the bets where you have to pick in order to get a big payout . I noticed a lot of online bookmaker adds in papers of late and are they better than the TAB? If bookmakers are online are they safe to bet with? What is the difference between them?
How much should I bet?
During the spring carnival I just bet whatever I felt like and that was generally $5 because it was the lowest denominator I had that wasn't a coin because handing over a $2 gold coin did not seem like a bet, however the note did for some reason. I need to know how to bet properly else I am only going to lose more than I win and that won't be good.
So that's what I need to know for now moving forward.
Punting and horse racing seems like it is a male dominated sport but it's time for a female punter to see what she can do.
Wish me luck!
